Common Errors

ESL/EFL students often struggle with:

• Verb tenses

• The articles a, an, and the

• Prepositions, e.g., in, of, on, into

• Pronouns, e.g., this, that, these, and those

• Non-parallel subject-verb constructions

• Speculative clauses, e.g., if... should, could, would

• Punctuation, particularly commas, colons, and semicolons

• Homophones, e.g., site/cite , principal/principle, since/sense, affect/effect, advice/advise, lead/led

• Possessives, e.g., its (not it's), the CEO's, the people's rights

• Plurals
